Penn hasn’t closed the door on return to 170

Fighting at welterweight is something Penn has toyed with several times, but the last couple of trips to 170 pounds didn’t greet the Hawaiian with the friendliest fights. Going 0-3 over his last few trips to welterweight may be just the motivation he needs to return there, but for now he’s focused on Edgar.
In true Penn fashion, however, he’ll never say never.
“There’s definitely a wait and see till after this fight, but there’s always much to accomplish anyways,” Penn said about a possible move back to welterweight.
One major point he contends is that no fighter ever truly clears out a division because leaving, even for a brief period, opens the door to many new young fighters who will be scratching and clawing their way to the top soon enough.
“Even if you do clean out the division, then you go to welterweight for a little while, there’s going to be another new Frankie, and all these guys. They’re always going to be popping up,” said Penn.
