Paulo Filho reportedly suffers seizure, fight cancelled

Former WEC middleweight champion Paulo Filho is a uniquely talented fighter, and a uniquely troubled soul. He has had well documented struggle with substance abuse, and other ills.

Filho was scheduled to fight UFC veteran Amilcar Alves in the Fatality Arena 7 on Sunday night, but was pulled hours before the event, after he apparently suffered a seizure.

“Paulo was apparently hospitalized this morning after suffering a seizure,” said official Osiris Maia to Guilherme Cruz for MMAFighting. “We can’t let him fight after that.”

Cruz was perhaps less tactful on Twitter.

•Guess what? Paulo Filho vs. Amilcar Alves is off. Looks like Filho had a seizure this morning. Damn.

•Unofficial explanation I just heard from a source is that Filho didn’t want to come to the fight and locked himself in the bathroom. Oh my.

Filho has gone just 1-4-2 since April of 2011.
