Bellator’s November slate will now include two title fights in Patricky Pitbull vs Peter Queally 2 at Bellator 270, and Cris Cyborg vs Sinead Kavanagh at Bellator 271

The news of the back-to-back events headlined by championship bouts came on Wednesday during Bellator President Scott Coker’s appearance on The “>MMA Hour.

Patricio Pitbull vacates lightweight title, Patricky Pitbull vs Peter Queally 2 changed to title fight

Patricky “Pitbull” Freire’s (23-10) November 5 bout in Dublin, Ireland against native star Peter Queally (13-5-1) has been set for some time as the card’s lightweight featured bout. However, Coker announced on the popular MMA program that the matchup has been upgraded to a title fight after Freire’s younger brother Patricio, the current division king, decided to vacate the title in favor of his sibling get another chance at 155-pound gold.

Patricio — the former featherweight champion and 145-pound Grand Prix finalist — had not yet defended the title he won from Michael Chandler in May of 2019.

This will be the 35-year-old Patricky’s third opportunity at Bellator lightweight gold. In his two previous chances, he came up short both times to promotional legend Chandler in 2011 and 2016.

Pitbull vs Queally 2 will be an immediate rematch of the pairs Bellator 258 bout in May. A fight the Irishman won by technical knockout after a bad cut from nasty ground-and-pound forced doctors to stop the fight in the second round.

This will be Queally’s first chance at a major world title.

Cyborg vs Kavanagh to headline Bellator 271 Nov. 12

Also announced during the Bellator boss’s guest spot was the official headliner of the promotion’s Nov. 12 card in Hollywood, Fla.

On that night at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Bellator women’s featherweight queen Cris “Cyborg” Justino (24-2) will return to action to defend her title for a third time when she takes on the challenge of Sinead Kavanagh (7-4).

The Brazilian MMA legend won the title in her Bellator debut in January of last year, when she defeated longtime featherweight champion Julia Budd by technical knockout in the fourth round of their Bellator 238 matchup. Since then, the former UFC featherweight titleholder has defended her belt successfully against Arlene Blencowe and Leslie Smith.

“KO” last fought a year ago at the promotion’s ninth “European Series” event, beating Katharina Lehner by unanimous decision. It was her second straight victory following a two-fight losing skid. She is 3-4 overall in the Bellator cage.
