Pat ‘Bam Bam’ Healy has retired after fighting professionally since 2001. Across the years he fought what at first glance appears to be the entire sport – Denis Kang, Dan Hardy, Chris Lytle, Paul Daley, Jay Hieron, Carlo Prater, Carlos Condit, Jake Ellenberger, Josh Thomson, Mizuto Hirota, Jim Miller, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Bobby Green, Jorge Masvidal, Gleison Tibau,
JZ Cavalcante, among many others. Career wins include Ghosn, Hardy, Daley, and Condit.
The announcement came via the social network, following a TKO loss to Magomed Raisov at ACB 78: Young Eagles 24 on Saturday night in Grozny, Russia.
“Thanks to everyone for your support,” he wrote. Disappointing performance to say the least. I thought about this a lot recently and that was my last fight. I can no longer compete at a high level. It’s been a hell of a ride. I’ve gone places and seen things I never thought I would. I’ve had a chance to make friends and memories all over the world. MMA gave me a life I could only have dreamed of. I will now focus on helping the next generation become successful and finally getting my BJJ black belt.”
‘Bam Bam’ entered the UFC with the acquisition of Strikeforce and started off on a tremendous high, submitting Jim Miller at UFC 159 April 27, 2013, in the Fight of the Night. However, after testing positive for the demon weed marijuana, Healy’s win was changed to a No Contest. He then faced and lost to a murderer’s row of Nurmagomedov, Green, Masvidal, and Tibau. None of the fighters stopped him, but Healy and was released.
He rebounded sharply, winning the coveted Titan FC belt in 2015 and defending it successfully. He was stripped of the belt the same year for missing weight, and was unable to regain the title the following year. He then moved on to ACB where he went 1-2, before retiring this weekend.
The UnderGround wishes Healy every success in his future endeavors.
