Palhares surgery successful, wants Shields in July

World Series of Fighting welterweight champion Rousimar Palhares underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Toquino’s manager Alex Davis told Guilherme Cruz for MMAFighting.com that the fighter starts physical therapy next week, should be able to train in two weeks, and should be cleared to fight in July. He hopes then to put his belt on the line vs. former Strikeforce middleweight champion Jake Shields

“(Shields) can talk now because when the time comes, the victory will be mine,” said Palhares previously. “I don’t know if it’s just confidence, I just know that the victory will be mine. No doubt about it because we’re both from jiu-jitsu – at least I am – so it’s my fight and I will win. When I put my hands on him, he will realize who he’s fighting.”
