Palhares stripped of title, suspended indefinitely

This past weekend Rousimar Palhares was again the center of controversy as he seemed to hold a submission hold too long on Jake Shields. Shields also accused Palhares of digging and gouging at his eyes during the bout and after taking in all the evidence, WSOF decided to strip Palhares of his title.

World Series of Fighting President revealed the news to Ariel Helwani live on the MMA Hour. 

WSOF president Ray Sefo announced Monday on The MMA Hour that Palhares will be stripped of his welterweight title and suspended indefinitely after gouging Jake Shields’ eyes and holding onto a submission too long Saturday night at WSOF 22 in Las Vegas.

“Not only did he did it once or twice,” Sefo said of the Palhares eye gouges. “He did it numerous times. And he was warned by the referee on four different occasions.”
