CBS Vice President of Programming Kelly Kahl and Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem appeared on The Fight Show with Mauro Ranallo earlier today. Mauro had this to say:
“Meanwhile the Haley’s comet of MMA Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem who hasn’t been seen in a North American MMA card since the night he became champion back on Nov 16, 2007 will finally return to North American airspace May 15 in St Louis. In an interview with mmajunkie The Demotion Man said he is likely to meet Brett The Grim Rogers in what The Fight Show as learned will be for the title.”
Mauro then made reference to the improbability of Rogers getting a title shot immediately after losing to Fedor Emelianenko. “Well I know what you’re asking yourself. Didn’t Brett Rogers lose his last outing against Fedor Emelianenko and now he’s fighting for the title?””
“Well that appears to be the case. And one of the reasons of course is what we alluded to with Kelly Kahl, the status of Fedor Emelianenko with Strikeforce. We know there have been issues going on with Emelianenko’s promoter M-1 Global. The relationship with Strikeforce said to be maybe not as rock solid as it would appear but when reached for comment. The source at Strikeforce said no comment but hopefully something’s will be cleared up in the near future.”
Other highlights from the interview include:
Herschel Walker will likely not be on the Strikeforce CBS card.
Fedor Emelianenko is not be on the card because of disputes between M-1 and Strikeforce
