Frank Mir took on Alistair Overeem at UFC 169 in a must-win situation for both heavyweight fighters who both were coming off consecutive loses.

In each of his two previous fights, Alistair Overeem fought at a frenetic pace, right up until the point he was knocked out.

Faced with a UFC 169 bout with Frank Mir in which it was believed the loser would be done with the company, the former Strikeforce champ knew he needed a change of approach.

Overeem went to Thailand to work on his cardio and it showed, as Overeem dominated the former UFC champ for three straight rounds at Newark’s Prudential Center. All three judges scored the bout 30-27.
