One weird intergender work in 2003

Being the sport’s official records keeper often involves work I am honored to do, that is not exciting. A fighter’s height can be listed wrong, for example. Or a fighter changes gyms.
Far more galvanizing are reports that a fight was a work. A work is a match in which both competitors know it is fake. A shoot is a match that is real. And in between is a fix, where only one competitor knows it is fake.
At Hammer House Fighting Championship 10: Armaggedon on September 20, 2003 in Lancaster, Ohio, our sport saw one truly weird work. Women’s MMA heavyweight competitor Teyvia Reid fought one Felicia Jones, winning by strikes in the first.
But Felicia Jones was actually a 300 lb male pro wrestler called Super Oprah, whose real name is purportedly Jabari Akeem Mustafa, whose real name is actually who knows. Reportedly only three people were in on it.
Reid retired with a record of 4-1, or 4-2 by some counts. Super Oprah Mustafa never competed in MMA again, but can be seen today on the independent circuit.
