Garry Tonon, one of the top grappling competitors of his generation, has signed an exclusive, multi-fight deal with ONE Championship. The 26-year-old Tom DeBlass and Ricardo Almeida black belt has won multiple IBJJF no-gi world championships as well as the EBI title, among other accolades. He is also part of the overwhelmingly dominant Danaher Death Squad.

Although Tonon has yet to compete in MMA, his debut is will attract major attention.

“I’m thrilled to announce that Garry “The Lion Killer” Tonon has signed with ONE Championship,” wrote owner Chatri Sityodtong on his social network. “He is a multiple-time World Champion and one of the greatest pound-for-pound grapplers on Earth today. Watch this space because I believe that he will be a legit world title contender sooner than people think. I am hoping that this news might even convince ONE Welterweight World Champion Ben Askren to un-retire!”

Tonon was equally excited.

I am thrilled to be able to finally announce my arrival in ONE Championship,” he told ONE. “It is the natural evolution in my career as a grappler. I have achieved all that I have set out to do in the world of jiu-jitsu, and now I am ready to take on a new challenge. I am excited to begin my ONE Championship career, and proud to showcase my skills on the biggest global stage of competition.

Tonon has competed for ONE previously, but in a grappling match vs. submission monster Shinya Aoki.

Tonon’s opponent and debut date have not been announced.
