One of Burnett’s attackers got probation, shot two more people
Tulsa Police Sgt. Sean Larkin said the August shooting was gang-related between the Hoover Crips and a subset of the Bloods.

On February 29, 2016, pioneering MMA fighter Michael Wayne ‘Mikey’ Burnett was shot three times in the stomach during an attempted robbery while leaving a Tulsa, OK gym. He son leaped on a robber in an attempt to defend his father, and was shot once.
The shooter was sentenced to 35 years. Another man involved in the attack, Otelia Warrior, 31, pled guilty to two counts of accessory to attempted robbery with a firearm, and was given four years in prison. A third attacker, Kywaun Washington, then 17, pleaded guilty as a youthful offender to two counts of assault and battery with a deadly weapon, two counts of attempted robbery with a firearm, and possession of a firearm after juvenile adjudication.
Washington initially was sentenced to 10 years in the custody of the Office of Juvenile Affairs and was placed on a treatment plan. He then aged out of the youthful offender program at age 18 years, 5 months. On the recommendation of Washington’s caseworker, the judge then gave him five years of probation. While on probation for the shooting of Burnett and his son, Washington has been charged with shooting two more individuals. Corey Jones has the story for Tulsa World.
Washington, 18, is charged with two counts of shooting with intent to kill or, in the alternative, assault and battery with a deadly weapon in the shootings of Darrinda Lea Hammer and an unidentified man Aug. 24 at the Towne Square apartment complex in the 1600 block of East Young Street. He also is charged with possession of a firearm after a felony conviction.
Tulsa Police Sgt. Sean Larkin said the August shooting was gang-related between the Hoover Crips and a subset of the Bloods. He said Washington is associated with one of the groups.
Larkin said police served a search warrant at Washington’s home and took him into custody there.
