Titled “Champion vs. Champion”, the competition pitches 16 fighters from a variety of martial arts — including Brazilian jiu-jitsu, karate, muay thai and boxing — against another for a cash prize and a chance at the Asian crown.

Hailing from China to the United States, Korea to South Africa, the fighters include such big names such as Thai boxing god Yodsanan Sityodtong, Brazilian jiu-jitsu champ Gregor Gracie and American UFC veteran Phil Baroni.

The match has already been dubbed “the biggest event in Asian mixed martial arts history,” with the 12,000-seater Singapore Indoor Stadium nearly sold out and the fight expected to be broadcast to 500 million viewers worldwide.

Organizers are hoping that the ONE Fighting Championship will do for Asia what UFC did for America — convert it into a region of mixed martial arts obsessives who might, maybe, churn out another Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan within the next few years.
