This weekend’s ONE Fight Night 8 headliner Superlek Kiatmoo9 has been passing on his skills to hip-hop star Wiz Khalifa.
“The Kicking Machine” may be preparing to defend his ONE flyweight kickboxing world title against Danial Williams in the main event this Friday, March 24, but way before he even won the gold, he was training the platinum-certified rapper.
In late 2022, the Thai sensation embarked on a 30-day tour of the United States alongside muay Thai legend Saenchai.
The pair hosted seminars at gyms across the country, and along the way, they encountered Khalifa.
Superlek personally worked with the “See You Again” MC and dropped some knowledge on him.
“He came to learn Muay Thai with me at the seminar. I taught him a few of my techniques,” the Thai said.
“His basics are good because he exercises regularly. He is also a fan of muay Thai and used to practice this sport.”
The unassuming 27-year-old admits he wasn’t aware that he was in the presence of a world-famous rapper when he worked with Khalifa.
But fame aside, Superlek says that the hip-hop star has some real fighting potential. And “The Kicking Machine” would know a fighter when he sees one, given that he has 132 professional wins to his name, as well as four muay Thai world titles across his career.
“After I saw his stance and how he attacked, I can tell that this guy can fight. He is not an ordinary amateur,” he said.
“But to tell the truth, I didn’t know him before. I didn’t know that he is a famous rapper. I was so happy to rub shoulders with a celeb like him.”
Superlek will look to make his fans happy when he steps into the ONE circle on Friday, and those in the U.S. and Canada can watch him compete live and for free at ONE Fight Night 8 with an Amazon Prime membership.
