ONE flyweight submission grappling world champion Mikey Musumeci thinks his sister, Tammi, should be next in line for the winner of ONE Fight Night 14‘s battle between Danielle Kelly and Jessa Khan.
The pair will face off for the inaugural ONE women’s atomweight submission grappling world title at the blockbuster September 29 event.
And with two wins under her belt in the promotion, “Darth Rigatoni” feels Tammi deserves a shot at gold once the world champion is crowned.
“I think what’s next for my sister is to fight for the belt. The winner against Jessa Kahn and Danielle Kelly. I think that just makes sense. My sister can make 115 (pounds) easy, and she’s submitted Danielle Kelly two times, both in like a minute. I think that is the perfect match for my sister,” he said.
“Danielle Kelly and Jessa are both amazing, and I think their match is going to be insane also. I think it’s going to be a super technical match, but I think my sister is ready to take the belt.”
Tammi has made a winning start to her ONE tenure in 2023, with two dominant decision wins over highly respected Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belts Bianca Basilio and Amanda Alequin already to her name.
Mikey revealed that both of his sister’s performances on the global stage have been, understandably, accompanied by a lot of nerves. As such, he believes fans have yet to see the 29-year-old’s full set of skills showcased under the ONE banner.
“Her minimal ability won the match, and I was proud of her for handling that. But I just know my sister could fight a lot better. She was just so nervous and, like, she wasn’t stabilizing position,” he said.
“I think that this experience has been good for her. Because she needs to get rid of the fear of competing center stage in ONE again. We’re used to being in high schools, and colleges were a big deal. That’s, like, the big stadium for us, right? (But in ONE), this is like millions of people watching. It’s a whole different thing. So it takes a while to adjust.”
