Olympic gold medalist in Greco Mijaín López coming to MMA

I wanted to share with you the name of a new heavyweight that you will be hearing a lot about in the upcoming years, Mijaín López, his long awaited dream of defecting to the United States and transitioning into mma has finally become a reality. Mijain is the 2008 Olimpic Gold Medalist 120 kg in Greco Roman Wrestling for Cuba and a highly decorated wrestler, he is a young men at only 28 years old, and has been a huge fan of mma for many years now.

It was no secret for his close friends in the Cuban sports circle that his dream was to one day compete in mma, for the past two years he had been training boxing in Cuba with the National team, trying to pick up as many skills as possible.

It was a surprice to me as a fellow Cuban when i was contacted thru friends and introduced to Mijain, he is a monster of a men at around 270 pounds, and i have never seen an athlete of his size with his movement, we are already training full time at my facility, and we have arranged with American Top Team for him to train part time at their facility as well.

We are anticipating his mma debute to take place sometime in the first half of 2011, mma is a very complicated sport with many aspects to it, and we want Mijain to make his debute as prepared as possible. This weekend we had several mma heavyweights that make the trip from time to time here to train with the Pro boxers and kickboxers at the Gym, they had no words for the potential of Mijain.
