Oklahoma debuting Tri Combat mixed fight sport

Mixed Martial Arts is the world’s fastest growing sport, and like all things that generate interest, someone somewhere is going to try to make them “better.” Some of the results are stupid, like X-Arm (MMA while wrist wrestling with a hand tied to together) or Calcio Fiorentino (MMA while playing soccer).

A version of mixed rules sport fighting that was developed more thoughtfully is Tri Combat, which allows fighters to compete in the three disciplines of Dirty Boxing, Muay Thai and Mixed Martial Arts, in successive rounds.

In the first round of Dirty Boxing, fighters are allowed to use stand up techniques such as hammer fists, elbows and clinching. Next, in round two the fighters then switch to Full Contact Muay Thai which uses the eight weapons of striking through punches, elbows, knees and kicks without the restriction of standard American Kickboxing. The bout then concludes with a third round of Mixed Martial Arts, thus allowing the fighters to take the bout to the ground.

Joe Miller of the Oklahoma State Athletic Commission said, We have worked with the promoters of Dominion Warrior Tri Combat for the past several years working out the details and preparing for the premiere of this event. Oklahoma is proud to be the first place that Tri Combat takes place. Our judges and referees have studied the rules for the past two years and are excited to be a part of what will become an incredible spectator sport. While most other states may be cautious about taking on a new venture we are open to new ideas and Tri Combat is great sure to be a great addition to the Martial Arts arena.

Tri Combat Fight Night is scheduled for Saturday, October 29th at the SpiritBank Event Center, Tulsa, OK. The doors open at 6:00pm and begins at 7:00pm. The card will feature two championship title fights and a full card of Tri Combat bouts.
