Sagetdao ‘Deadly Star’ Petpayathai was awarded a Unanimous Decision over Ma Jia Wen at ONE Championship: Reign of Kings, on Friday, July 27, in Manila, Philippines. As there is no MMA regulatory body in the Philippines, the event was self-regulated. Vice President of Operations Matt Hume, likely the most knowledgeable person in mixed martial arts, is the head of that effort.

After review, the bout outcome was reversed.

The ONE Championship team led by Matt Hume and the official cageside judges have conducted an official review of the controversial bout between Ma Jie Wen and Sagetdao Petpayathai at ONE: SPIRIT OF A WARRIOR in Yangon, Myanmar.

The bout was extremely close, with both martial artists making a case as the victor. However, after reviewing all standards of ONE Championship judging criteria, we have determined that Ma Jia Wen has slightly edged out Sagetdao on the scorecards. The decision has been formally overturned by the ONE Competition Committee and Ma Jia Wen is now declared the rightful winner.

This was an act of integrity, not favoritism – Sagetdao is an Evolve MMA fighter, which shares ownership with ONE. This was the first loss for the Thai-Singaporean Sagetdao, 31, whose record now stands at 3-1. His first three fights all ended via strikes in Round 1.

Wen, 21, is now on a four-fight wins streak.
