After each live event, the UFC polls various members of the media to update it’s rankings in each weight division as well as the pound for pound rankings. With only a few meaningful bouts at this past weekend’s UFC 157, there was only small movement in some divisions.
Lightheavyweight (Champion : Jon Jones)
1 Lyoto Machida
2 Alexander Gustafsson
3 Dan Henderson
4 Glover Teixeira
5 Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
6 Mauricio Rua
6 Rashad Evans
8 Phil Davis
9 Ryan Bader
10 Gegard Mousasi
In the lightheavyweight, Lyoto Machida moved up one spot to the number one spot, and UFC President Dana White confirmed that he would indeed fight Jon Jones next. Alexander Gustaffson moved up to the number two spot, despite not competing, with Dan Henderson’s loss.
Welterweight (Champion : Georges St-Pierre)
1 Johny Hendricks
2 Carlos Condit
3 Nick Diaz
4 Rory MacDonald
5 Demian Maia
6 Jake Ellenberger
7 Martin Kampmann
8 Tarec Saffiedine
9 Josh Koscheck
10 Robbie Lawler
Robbie Lawler entered the top ten immediately with his win over Josh Koscheck. Lawler was one of the fighters return to the UFC after Strikeforce was dissolved. Despite the loss, Koscheck remained higher in the rankings, having previously been ranked eighth.
On a personal note, I am also a voting member of the panel and agreed with the movement on the lightheavyweight rankings, but I had Lawler in 9th and Koscheck in 10th as I couldn’t see Koscheck remaining above Lawler in the rankings lossing from TKO.
