MMAJunkie reports that Khabib Nurmagomedov has a knee injury, and is out of the fight with Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone at UFC 187 on May 23, 2015 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Khabibs’ father told Russia’s ProSport that the fighter injured his meniscus, likely needed surgery, and would not be able to fight for five months – two to recover from surgery, and three to train.

Although Cerrone doubtless offered to fight himself, he will be fighting Tristar Gym standout John Makdessi. Makdessi is coming off a first-round TKO Shane Campbell at UFC 186.

The winner of Cowboy vs. The Eagle was expected to move up to fight UFC Rafael dos Anjos. It is highly unlikely that the winner of the fight gets a title shot, as had been the case for Nurmagomedov vs. Cerrone.

Nurmagomedov had trash talked Anthony Pettis with glee; Pettis was apparently not amused.

If it’s true that bad things coming in threes, as Jones was out yesterday, and Nurmagomedov is out today, then someone should get Vitor Belfort in this anti bear suit, and not let him out of his house.
