Nunes: Rousey looks weak as a person, has forgotten everyone

If you are a hardcore fan of MMA, UFC 205 may have left you with an adrenaline hangover. But the trash talking is already underway for future UFC pay per view events.

UFC 207 on December 30, 2016, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, features the return of former women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey. ‘Rowdy’ will be fighting for the belt she lost to Holly Holm that went to Miesha Tate and then to Amanda Nunes, the current champion.

The pair had a faceoff after the UFC 205 weigh-ins, after which Rousey walked off without saying a word. There was chatter among the hardcore fanbase that Rousey shrugged off White’s grip and appeared to stalk away.

However, White said that was a result of a production error, and that neither fighter was supposed to be interviewed.

“My production guy screwed that thing up,” said White, as transcribed by Marc Raimondi for MMA Fighting. “It made Ronda look bad again, like she just stormed off. They were not supposed to do an interview. They were supposed to go out there, square off, and they were both supposed to walk away.”

“We’re not perfect all the time. Our team coming into this big event, we made a lot of mistakes coming into this event that I’m not happy about. Not stuff that you would notice. I try to be perfect, but it didn’t work out.”

Never the less, Nunes did not avoid the opportunity to trash talk offered by Rousey’s demeanor.

That is never going to happen with me, said Nunes to Lance Pugmire for the LA Times. The way I sit down with you [reporters] now, that’s going to happen for a long time, because I’m going to be the champion for a long time. When we were at the beginning of our career, we needed you [reporters].

I got the belt, I’m going to stay the same. I don’t want to be Ronda Rousey. She doesn’t want to talk to nobody. This doesn’t make any sense. You want to be … like that? I want to be the best and be normal. I want to stop and sign pictures. This is the way a champion has to be.

You are human, you are normal.

Life is like that … you sometimes have to go back to nothing and work your way back, and I think people like to see that. Kids look up to [Rousey]. She looks weak as a person now. She’s not saying anything. It’s like she’s forgotten about everybody. She doesn’t know how to take it.

The first couple days [after beating Tate], I walked my dog with the belt, took it fishing on my boat, traveled to Brazil with it. I like to see it every day. It’s amazing.

Beating Rousey will make everything perfect for me and bring me all the respect.

It’s going to be a battle. Ronda Rousey is still Ronda Rousey. She’s going to be a hard opponent. But I don’t think she can [win]. I have more to show than her.

I’m good on the ground. I know judo throws. Armbar defense. My striking is getting better and better. I’m not only good at one thing. She’s going to have a hard time.

When you learn, judo [and] jiu-jitsu, you’re [supposed to be] humble in losing, focused on getting better. I don’t know why she’s so down.

White was asked when Rousey would start to talk before the fight, and said she already is.

“She was on Ellen,” said White. “She’s doing Kimmel. She’s doing all the talk shows. Is she gonna talk to you guys [in the MMA media]? I don’t know.”
