NSAC threatens $250k fine if Sonnen competes in Metamoris
The Nevada Athletic Commission is seeking to stop Chael Sonnen from competing on Saturday at Metamoris 4, despite the fact that the NSAC does not regulate grappling.

The betting odds against Chael Sonnen defeating Andre Galvao at Metamoris 4 are a staggering Chael Sonnen +1603. Now the Aug 9 submission wrestling bout itself is in extreme jeopardy, as the Nevada State Athletic Commission is trying to shut it down.
“Multiple sources confirm NSAC has threatened to fine Sonnen $250,000 per failed drug test violation if he competes at Metamoris,” tweeted Jeremy Botter. “Sonnen camp’s contention is that grappling is not fighting and suspension shouldn’t cover it. Sonnen has hired Vegas lawyer Ross Goodman to represent him in the case.”
Sonnen is currently suspended from competing in Mixed Martial Arts following multiple PED test failures. It is not clear how the suspension would extend to sports that are unregulated, like grappling, or for that matter table Tennis.
Metamoris founder Ralek Gracie expressed shock at the development.
“Just talked to Ralek Gracie about the Chael Sonnen situation, tweeted Guilherme Cruz. “First time he heard about it. ‘Damn, that’s crazy, dude’ was his reaction.”
