CM Punk was still wondering what city he was in at UFC 203, when winner Mickey Gall was calling for the next opponent.

“I got someone I want next,” said Gall in the Octagon. “The fight everyone wants to see. I want Super Sage Northcutt. I think that boy’s corny. I want to punch the spikes out of his hair.”

UFC president Dana White spoke with Megan Olivi shortly afterwards and discussed the potential match up.

I never make fights the night of the fight, White had explained previously. Mickey Gall will obviously move forward and continue to fight here in the UFC.

When he called him out, Sage’s people responded – texted me immediately. And they want the fight. So we’ll see if that fight happens.

The UnderGround’s Jonathan Shrager contacted Sage’s father Mark, about the potential match up.

“No one from UFC has called us yet about Mickey Gall fight,” said Mark.

Sage’s pops was asked about the possibility of a fight at UFC 205, when the league makes a triumphant return to New York, on November 12, 2016, at Madison Square Garden.

“Sage would never be able to be ready for that one because he hasn’t been able to train due to several things,” explained the elder Northcutt.

“The staph he had before, happened at TriStar. It was on his arm, and he was in the hospital for a week. It was the MRSA staph, and very scary. He had another small infection on the same arm, and we are trying to find an expert in the field to figure out what is going on.”

“The UFC’s trying to find an appropriate infectious disease doctor to look at it this week.”

Schrager asked if Northcutt would be willing to fight at 170.

“For the Barberena fight, Sage was battling Strep Throat for a couple of weeks and was scheduled to fight at 155, and his opponent broke his foot, and Barberena was a replacement at 170 just a few days before we were scheduled to fly out,” replied Mark. “Sage was already down in the low 160’s when he got the call to change opponents and go up a weight class. To know ahead of time he would be fighting at 170 would a lot different.”

Mark indicated that they hoped for an Octagon return by the end of the year

“So I’m not sure on a time frame yet, but shooting for something before the year ends if he can get this issue cleared up,” he said. “He’s only been able to train for about two total weeks off and on since his last fight.”

Northcutt’s last fight was a unanimous decision win over Enrique Marin at UFC 200 on July 9, 2016. The fight was at lightweight.
