Nick Newell gets title shot at new WSoF champ Justin Gaethje

Saturday night at World Series of Fighting 8, Justin Gaethje beat Richard Patishnock for the inaugural WSoF Lightweight championship. WSoF matchmaker, Ali Abdelaziz, immediately announced that Nick Newell would be the first challenger.

In a refreshing change from the usual pre fight bitter banter, the pair of undefeated lightweights were hanging out amiably both before and after the fight.

Newell, who was born with a congenital amputation – his left arm stops just past the elbow, addressed fans who think he can’t beat Gaethje.

“I could beat everyone in the world and there would still be people who say I suck, I am not good enough, or they don’t think I could do this or that,” Newell told FanSided. “I have been dealing with that stuff my whole life and I just don’t listen to them. I just do my own thing. Whether you think I can or can’t it doesn’t really bother me, I am going to try and do it anyway.”
