The world is too slowly waking up to what we have known in New England for years – Nick Newell belongs in the UFC. He returned to the sport in March, after taking a break late in 2015. After his 14th win in 15 fights, he was blunt about his goals.

Life is a cold hard place. It will chew you up and spit you out, he said. But if you make it your bitch, you can do anything. You can either become a victim of circumstances or you can create your own. I’m out here, I’m creating my own circumstances. I’m one of the best fighters in the world and I belong in the UFC. That’s it. That’s final. I gave you 14 reasons why I belong in the UFC. I’m one of the best fighters in the world and I proved it 14 times.

The sole loss on Newell’s record is to Justin Gaethje, who has made a monster splash in the UFC.

UFC president Dana White has long been on record as opposing Newell’s entry into the UFC, explicitly citing the congenital amputation of his left arm, which ends just below his elbow.

It’s hard to fight with two arms, said White. Fighting with one arm is just craziness to me.

However, White has reconsidered, to a point. ESPN broke the news.

“Nick Newell will get a shot at a UFC contract,” tweeted Brett Okamoto. “Per Dana White, he’ll be offered a fight on the Tuesday Night Contender Series in June.”

Newell is not in the UFC yet, unfortunately. DWTNCS is a separate entity, that airs on UFC Fight Pass.

This is not the UFC, this is not the UFC brand, but instead a promotion that will allow up and coming fighters the chance to showcase their talents in hopes that one day they may compete in the UFC,” it is explained.

The first season featured eight events, usually with five fights. Usually two fighters are offered UFC contracts, but sometimes it’s more. Season 2 of DWTNCS starts on June 12. Expect Newell to win, and expect him to earn a contract, and expect positive publicity about the power of self-belief and the power of Nick Newell.
