Lee Whitehead is a well known face around the UK MMA scene and is making a mark internationally through his work with MMAWeekly, Spiked and the now defunct MMA Unltd magazine. A writer and photographer, Whitehead has captured some great images in his time behind the lens; from the poignant to the graphic and everything inbetween.
Blunt Force Trauma is a collection of his finest work, compiled in hardback so it can adorn the coffee tables and bed sides of any MMA or combat sports fan. The images will even catch the eye of those oblivious to fight sports; striking, riveting and emotional at the same time.
With eleven sections to engross the reader, the engaging captions seek to educate and inform, whilst giving an insider’s view on what is unfolding. Whitehead himself has stepped foot in the cage as a fighter and this translates not only to his shot selection and ability to capture the right moments, but also in his ability to detail the exact thought processes of those doing battle.
UFC title challenger Dan Hardy sums it up in the foreword:
To tell each and every fighter’s story would be impossible, but moments captured in time give an insight into a fighter’s journey. Moments of glory and success or moments of pain and disappointment – all are part of life as a fighter.
These integral moments compose careers of the fighters you love and even the ones you’ll never know. They’re chronicled by Whitehead in Blunt Force Trauma in such a captivating way that you’ll be reaching for the book again and again, and forcing those around you to do the same.
