On Saturday at UFC 179, welterweight Neil Magny tied the modern-era UFC record for most wins in a year, with five.

10/25/2014 defeated William Macario by TKO (Punches, Round 3, 2:40) at UFC 179

08/23/2014 defeated Alex Garcia by Unanimous Decision at UFN 49

06/28/2014 defeated Rodrigo de Lima by TKO/RSC (Strikes, Round 2, 2:32) and UFN 43

05/10/2014 defeated Tim Means by Unanimous Decision at UFN 40

02/01/2014 defeated Gasan Umalatov by Unanimous Decision at UFC 169

Until now the sole fighter to reach the mark had been Roger Huerta, back in in 2007. Magny’s run is all the more extraordinary as he lost the two fights before that. And it is all more extraordinary as Magny is ready for another one before the end of the year.

“I just go right back to the gym and wait for the next call, who ever it may be,” said Magny post fight. “Whether it’s someone in the top 15 or not, I am ready to go back out there and prove my self again.”

“I definitely feel like this year showed I a force to be reckoned with in the UFC. To win five fights in one year… definitely shows my hard work and dedication to this sport.

“Definitely (I am ready to fight again this year). I’ve been blessed to go into that fight and walk out of there without a scratch on me. So if they have an opportunity to fight a sixth time this year, I will definitely accept it and keep going.”

“(Winning five in a year) almost seems unreal – did that really just happen??!? It just seems surreal right now.”
