Namajunas recounts McGregor attack

In one of the most unfathomable moments in the sport’s history, on Friday former UFC featherweight and lightweight champ Conor McGregor attacked a bus with hand truck in an attempt to get back at Khabib Nurmagomedov, who had had words earlier in the week with McGregor’s SBGi teammate Artem Lobov. This wasn’t drunken spur-of-the-moment idiocy, McGregor flew over a dozen worthless hangers-on across the Atlantic to participate. It’s not that defending your friends with a flying kick is so out of line, it’s that McGregor’s noisy flying kick carried him over a railing and into a cesspool, like a lousy, vile buffoon.

McGregor succeeded in getting Lobov removed from the card due to his participation. He cut Michael Chiesa so badly he couldn’t fight. His action drove flying glass into Ray Borg’s eyes, taking out yet another fighter. And McGregor succeeded in amusing Nurmagomedov, who wiled away his childhood in Dagestan wrestling a bear and shooting RPGs with his friends, who, incidentally, never, ever smile when a camera is aimed at them.

UFC VP Reed Harris, a lifelong martial artist, said some of the bus occupants felt in fear for their lives. UFC women’s strawweight champion Rose Namajunas was anxious to the point she didn’t want to fight. Cutting weight is miserable for everyone. The pressure of a world title fight is immense. And Namajunas has struggled with anxiety issues. What McGregor did was despicable, and ineffective.

In this interview, Namajunas recounts what it felt like to be subject to McGregor’s attack.

The UFC president Dana White said McGregor had reached out to Chiesa and Namajunas to apologize. In fairness, they should each smash him in the face with a hand truck, apologize, and then mutter, “It had to be done.”

The good news, of course, is Namajunas rose above the bad, as she has her entire life, and conquered, again defeated the former undefeated Joanna Jedrzekczyk. Meanwhile, McGregor is enshrined in the MMA @$$hole Hall of Fame.
