Mousasi: How can the media call Ronda one of the best?
Gegard Mousasi: “How can the media make her one of the best fighters when she can’t even kick or punch?”

UFC middleweight Gegard Mousasi recently spoke with Teo Teng Kiat for Singapore’s TODAY, to promote UFC Fight Night 111: Holm vs. Correia (AKA Fight Night Singapore) on June 17, 2017 at Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore. The event is the first UFC fight in the region in two years.
I’ve always loved fighting in Asia,” said Mousasi. “The fans are behind you if you come and give your best … Will I come to Singapore? I hope so — maybe next year!
I think Asian culture … [fighting] is very accepted and people respect it. If [the UFC] put the time and effort, it will be huge in Asia.
Mousasi was less impressed with those who call former women’s bantamweight champion one the best. While Ronda is the most famous fighter in UFC history, The Dreamcatcher argues her skillset is too limited to be called one of the best.
She’s a good fighter, she has the mentality of a fighter,” said Mousasi. “But she doesn’t have the skills of a stand-up fighter. How can the media make her one of the best fighters when she can’t even kick or punch? That’s like Serena Williams without a backhand. How do they make her the greatest fighter of all time?
Famed trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr analyzes Rousey’s striking after her last loss in an interview with the ever excellent Fight Hype.
Mousasi is also not impressed with the coming boxing match between Conor McGregor and Mayweather Jr.
That’s a stupid fight,” he said. “It’s entertainment, nothing sport.
At the end of the day, it’s money; everyone wants to make money, so he wants to make money, people want to see the fight.
