MMA Twitter reacts to FMJ vs. Berto

Floyd Mayweather beat Andre Berto very unanimously (117-111, 118-110, 120-108) on Saturday night. For many fans with an MMA leaning, the greatest part of the fight was that he retired after it.

Mayweather’s record stands at a perfect 49-0, tying that of Rocky Marciano. ‘The Brockton Blockbuster’ had 43 knockouts, to Money’s 26. And Mayweather cleared over $700,000,000 while Marciano grossed 1,700,000 ($15,000,000 in today’s dollars). Mayweather made $32,000,000 for Saturday’s fight.

The live crowd booed the final round, that saw FMJ literally run away the last few seconds. In a sobering moment, Mayweather was asked what shape he leaves the sport in. He characteristically turned the question around to himself, and said “I’m leaving the sport with all my faculties.”

Many fighters don’t, which gives pause when criticizing his style.
