The Mannequin Challenge is a viral Internet video phenomenon in which participants remain frozen in action like mannequins, while a moving smartphone films them. It is believed to have been started by students in Jacksonville, Florida on October 12, 2016, and has since been copied by a wide variety of groups, sometimes with remarkable complexity.
Multiple inspirations have been cited for The Mannequin Challenge, from bullet time scenes in action films like The Matrix and X-Men: Days of Future Past, to participatory memes on social media like the Harlem Shake. Most recently, similarities have been noted with the new HBO TV series Westworld, in which robots can be stopped in their tracks.
The MMA world is driven in no small part by social media, and is not immune to The Challenge.
UFC fans can be broken down into Brittney Palmer or Arianny Celeste, with the hardcore fanbase choosing the former. Both women are on display in this UFC 205 video from Ms. Palmer’s Instagram account.
UFC Octagon Girl Luciana Andrade, posted a video on her social network that involved other Octagon girls, Bruce Buffer, and UFC staffers all gamely joining in, in the middle of UFC Sao Paulo.
