And now it’s time for my favorite (not) time of the month: releasing my #MMA rankings. Hope we’ll still be friends

(see at bottom)

shaggstoodope

i those are the stupidest rankings ever. I know balancing “objective journalsim” & being a Dana yes man it tough but cmon

arielhelwani

I can’t believe I am even replying to you, but I would love know which part of my rankings makes you feel I am biased?

shaggstoodope

obviously Dana chewing you out on camera had an impact on you, we all saw you tuck when he told you Fedor isnt #1. And now you put Overeem low when everyone knows he’s top two at least. Just dumb.

arielhelwani

How did I guess that would be your explanation? Make you a deal: you show me 1 credible site that has Overeem listed in top 2 (heck, make it top 3), and I send you a signed Overeem program from his last SF fight. If not, you leave me alone forever. Deal?

shaggstoodope

Deal. How about @basrutten is he credible enough for you? Bas ranked OVereem the #1 ranked HW http://img.mixedmartialarts.com/method=get&s=bas-rutten-rankings.png

arielhelwani

His reasoning is because he is Dutch. And again, he isn’t a media outlet. Thanks for playing. Bye.

shaggstoodope

So you dont think @basruttenmma has enough credibility to do rankings but a Josh Gross does?? Unbelievable. Dont welch either. Inside MMA isn’t considered a MMA outlet??

HEAVYWEIGHT

1. Cain Velasquez (9-0) – Velasquez dominated Brock Lesnar from start to finish en route to winning via first round TKO. He’s the new UFC heavyweight champion, and up next is Junior dos Santos. I like Velasquez.

2. Junior dos Santos (12-1) – We’re about to find out what kind of takedown defense JDS has.

3. Fabricio Werdum (14-4-1) – Hoping for a first quarter 2011 return.

4. Fedor Emelianenko (31-2, 1 NC) – Doesn’t look like he’ll be fighting in 2010 again. One fight this year will be disappointing.

5. Brock Lesnar (5-2) – It’s clear now that Lesnar has a lot of work to do before becoming the unstoppable force he can be at heavyweight.

6. Alistair Overeem (33-11, 1 NC) – Overeem won his first fight in the K-1 Final 16, which means he isn’t fighting for Strikeforce any time soon.

7. Shane Carwin (12-1) – Underwent back surgery this week. No word on when he will return.

8. Frank Mir (14-5) – His win over Mirko Crop Cop wasn’t his best, but a win is a win.

9. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (32-6-1, 1 NC) – Looks like he will be back next summer.

10. Roy Nelson (15-5) – “Big Country” was pulled from UFC 125 due to Carwin’s surgery.
