Monroe County accident leaves Biloxian dead
A Biloxi man has died in a one-vehicle accident in Monroe County.
Coroner Alan Gurley said Adam Carlyle O’Keefe, 29, died about 11:50 p.m. Monday after the accident on U.S. Highway 45 Alternate, four miles north of Highway 41 in Monroe County, north of Okolona and south of Shannon.
According to two Monroe County deputies, they were observing traffic on Highway 45 alternate near Smokey’s Truck Stop when a 2003 Black Kia was observed going north on 45A in excess of 100 mph.
The deputies tried to stop the vehicle but, Gurley said, O’Keefe did not stop and eventually lost control of vehicle, crossed median and flipped several times coming to rest in the southbound lane.
O’Keefe was thrown from vehicle and was found dead on the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
The Highway Patrol is investigating the accident along with the Monroe County Coroner’s Office.
