Google’s PageRank assigns each website on the internet a number between 1 and 10, representing a relative importance factor. The higher a site’s PageRank is, the more precedence the site is given within search queries on terms that the site references – it’s a credibility rating with Google.
PageRank 1-10
1 – Very poor
2 – Poor
3 – Average: jacksons.tv, joelauzon.com, punishmentathletics.com, mma30.com
4 – Above Average: fightersonlymag.com, bullshido.net, mmaplayground.com, mmaworldwide.com
5 – Good: mmamania.com, mmaweekly.com, mmapayout.com, mmajunkie.com, tatame.com, bleacherreport.com/mma
6 – Great: ufc.com, sherdog.com, bloodyelbow.com,
7 – On fire: Most small and medium size companies should dream of sevens. There are just a handful of web sites in the MMA space at this rank – mmafighting.com, sportsillustrated.cnn.com/mma/, espn.go.com/mma/, sports.yahoo.com/mma, and mixedmartialarts.com.
8 – Huge: espn.com, tmz.com, usatoday.com
9 – Hugely huge: amazon.com, aol.com, expedia.com, mapquest.com, nytimes.com
10 – Hugest google.com, microsoft.com, facebook.com
The MMA space is consolidating – big companies are taking over. The UFC is immune because it became a big company, but the smaller sites are getting smaller, or being bought by huge companies. USA Today owns MMAJunkie. Vox Media which already owned MMAMania and BloodyElbow, now owns MMAFighting too. Sherdog is owned by Crave Online.
Beyond that, some of the largest media companies in the world have built MMA sites into PageRank 7. AOL created MMAFighting, CNN, ESPN, YAHOO all did the same. Having a Godzilla-sized friend helps PageRank. MixedMartialArts has no big friend, but it has something better, a community, you.
So from the bottom of my heart, thank you, each and every one of you.
