Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir has fought in the UFC since 2001. For 15 years he has had some extraordinary ups and down. However, UFC Fight Night 85 on March 20, 2016 in Brisbane, Australia, may have been his worst night in the Octagon. Opponent Mark Hunt did a walk off KO at 3:01 of Round 1. And then USADA, the UFC’s independent drug testing service, announced that he been flagged for a potential anti-doping violation.

He posted a firmly worded denial on social media, and asked fans to withhold judgment until further details become available.

To all my fans and supporters,

I recently have been notified by usada that the test I took on the night of the fight came back positive for a substance that I did not take. I don’t know how that is possible as I did not take any performance enhancing drugs (PEDs) to compete. I have never tested positive for a banned substance since joining the UFC and becoming a 2x champion. I ask all of you to hold judgement against me until all the facts have been revealed.

Thank you,

Frank

Mir, coach Ricky Lundell, and broadcaster/comedian Richard Hunter have a Phonebooth Fighting podcast, and the fighter discussed the flagged test at length.

Thanks to everyone for all of your support & comments. I sat up half the night & recorded this special Phone Booth Fighting episode with Richard Hunter to give you guys the entire story, straight from me, on the USADA drug test. Please give it a listen. I hope it answers the questions that I know many of you have. Frank
