Miocic: I’m more deserving of title shot than Reem

“I think I’m more deserving. Overeem is super tough. He’s a tough guy, he’s been on a little streak, but I definitely feel like I’m more deserving than he is.”

Top UFC heavyweight StipeMiocic appeared recently on Submission Radio, and discussed his big win at UFC 195, and what he wants next.

On why he ran over to Dana and yelled at him after the fight, considering he’s usually such a quiet guy.

I’m showing him I deserve it. I’m showing him I’m ready for it. I’m definitely capable of fighting for a title.

Why Stipe decided to run back a second time and yell some more.

Yeah, I just wanted to get my point across, let him know I wasn’t messing around, just not for show. I was being serious. It was more personal than anything else.

If it had to do with his phone call with Dana previously where he got told he wasn’t popular enough for a title shot.

Yeah, 100 percent.

On if Stipe feels like he’s popular enough after this latest win and what he accomplished against Arlovski.

Yeah I think the feedback’s been great. I think everyone thinks I deserve it. I think it worked out well.

On his Fiancé’s reaction to his outburst after his victory against Arlovski.

She loved it. She said ‘I was so proud of you, you know, it’s about time you opened up like that and showed everyone who you were’.

If there’s still a part of Stipe that feels he still might get overlooked for a title shot.

I mean, who knows? I mean, I hope not. I definitely think I’m deserving of it and it shouldn’t happen like that, but you know, I don’t want to think about that. I’m thinking about positive. I’m getting the next shot.

If Stipe has had any other conversations about his title shot with Dana since UFC 195.

No, no. But my manager’s been talking to him.

On not trying to be nice and honestly not caring who he fights Werdum or Cain

I don’t care. I do not care.

If Stipe doesn’t care because he’s confident he could beat either guy.

Yeah. I have like the best coaches in the world. You know, I have so much confidence in them it’s ridiculous.

If there’s any part of Stipe that worries that a title shot will go to Overeem next as a part of his negotiations to stay in the UFC.

Yeah it’s always in the back of my mind, but you know, I think I’m more deserving. Overeem is super tough. He’s a tough guy, he’s been on a little streak, but I definitely feel like I’m more deserving than he is.

Why Stipe feels like he’s more deserving for a title shot than Overeem.

The last three guys I fought are top five in the world, and he’s got three guys behind him that knocked him out in the first round.

UFC president Dana White was unambiguous after the fight – Miocic gets the next title shot at the winner of current heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum vs. Cain Velasquez at UFC 196 on Feb. 6 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
