UFC heavyweight Stipe Miocic spoke recently with Submission Radio about his win over Mark Hunt at UFC Fight Night 65 on Saturday.

Hunt had predicted Miocic would get KOed, but the Croat said the prediction didn’t bother him.

You know it just adds more fuel to the fire,” said Miocic. “He’s been saying that a lot the whole time coming up to the fight, but you know it builds hype, man. You know, he does; he drops people, he knocks people out, but I wasn’t going to let that happen.

Nothing influenced me. I have a game plan when I walk in and I’m going to stick to it and get the ‘W’.

Mark; he’s got bombs in his hands like everyone says, and he does, but you know I feel like my boxing is one of the best in the heavyweight division and I proved that.

“I mean he’s got a good chin like everyone says and he does have a good chin. My hands feel it and my hands are sore, but like I said, I needed to keep pushing the pressure and keep hitting him until the ref stepped in.

“I have a great game plan when I walk in. You know, I throw a lot of punches. That’s one of my game plans, I throw a lot of punches. I like to be in their face and I felt comfortable. If any time I felt sick and tired, then I’d back off and look for another way, but yeah I felt great.

Stipe’s performance broke both the modern day and the all time record for punches landed in the Octagon.

It was pretty cool man,” he said. “You know it’s cool to be a part of something, but like I said, all I care about is getting that ‘W’ man, no matter how many punches. It could have been 10 punches, it could have been 4000. I don’t care. As long as I get the ‘W’.

The fight was controversial as the referee, corner, and doctor let it go on for so long. And because one judge didn’t see a single 10-8 round. However, Miocic did not offer an opinion on the fight being stopped late by the ref.

You know what? Not my decision,” he said. “Mark’s like one of the most durable guys, he’s got a great chin, you know and that’s what the ref probably thought too, and I remember one time he did say ‘I’m fine.’ He said literally ‘I’m fine’ in the middle of the fight.”

Stipe was adamant that if the roles were reversed, he would not want his corner throwing in the towel.

No,” said Miocic. “I would never let them throw in the towel.

Miocic has a clear vision for his future.

Listen, I want a shot a title,” he said. “That’s all I care about.

And if he wins the UFC heavyweight title will he keep his current job?

Yeah I’ll still be a fireman,” he said.
