Ahead of their July 23rd showdown, Mike “300” Hayes has some harsh words for UFC veteran Sean “Big Sexy” McCorkle.
Q: First things first, you are fighting “Big Sexy” Sean McCorkle on July 23rd as the main event at Championship Fighting Alliance in Miami, Florida. Give us your thoughts on the fight, and tell us, is Sean both the biggest and sexiest fighter you’ve ever faced?
Mike Hayes: He’s definitely going to be the biggest fighter I’ve ever faced. I’m not the best judge of his sexiness. He can’t be too sexy, or his wife wouldn’t have left him.
Q: Wow, ok. How do you in your mind see the fight going?
SM: Well, since he can’t fight standing up to save his life, I think we all know that he’s going to try to get me to the ground. That is if he doesn’t gas out on the way to the cage. McCorkle has the gas tank of an electric car, so all I’ll have to do is survive the first 2 minutes, and then I’ll be able to do whatever I want.
Q: McCorkle has said in the past that the combination of cutting a lot of weight to make 265 combined with the anxiety of fighting on such a large stage have an extremely negative effect on his cardio. Are you expecting anything different from him in that regard this fight?
MH: Excuses are like a——ss, everyone has one. If he has trouble making the weight, maybe he should get his fat ass into shape and stop cutting so much. I’ve never bought the “stage fright” excuse from anyone. You’re either a fighter or you aren’t. I don’t think he is. I think he’s a big athletic guy who doesn’t like to fight, and is only in this for the fame, money, and girls.
Q: Stylistically how do you think the two of you match up?
MH: I know I’m better standing up. I know I hit a lot harder than he does. McCorkle is like a wrestler who can’t really wrestle. The only fighter of note that he’s ever beaten is Mark Hunt. And I think we’ve all been able to see since then that it was a fluke. The sun shines even on a dogs ass sometimes.
Q: You seem to have a lot of animosity towards McCorkle. Is this all just part of selling the fight, or do you genuinely not like the guy?
MH: I think he’s a total douchebag. He never paid his dues to get into the UFC and it showed once he got there. He seems to treat this whole thing like it’s a joke. I have no respect for guys who act the way he does towards his opponents, and who don’t ever miss a chance to pat themselves on the back.
Q: Assuming you win this fight, what’s next for Mike “300” Hayes?
MH: Hopefully this will get the attention of Joe Silva or Dana White and I’ll get a shot in the UFC or Strikeforce. That is my dream, and it’s about time I get my shot.
