The fluke talk and related questions have subsided. But Mike Thomas Brown, even after destroying Urijah Brown and Leonard Garcia back-to-back, even after being fitted with a WEC championship belt, is occasionally reminded that the residue of being underestimated is a stubborn one and not so easily washed away. He was reunited with this perplexing phenomenon earlier this week upon learning that oddsmakers have pegged him as a slight underdog for his rematch with Urijah Faber.
This is the first I’ve heard of it and I’m actually surprised, Brown said. If I was a bookie, I would put myself as a slight favorite, honestly. I mean, I beat him once already. It’s not like I’ve surprised anybody; I’ve fought a long time and a lot of good guys so it’s not a new thing that I’m fighting at this level. I would think that since I won the first fight, they would put me ahead a little bit.
