On the latest episode of UFC on FOX, Kenny Florian, Daniel Cormier, and Miesha Tate each had some advice for former women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey. The segment was inspired by Gina Carano’s recent advice to ‘Rowdy’.
Kenflo was up first and he suggested Rousey determine what she is passionate about and if it’s fighting, then do it the right way. That would include addressing any mental issues and taking the right fight. And if she wants to act, go act.
Cormier offered sterner advice – don’t listen to Gina Carano. He argued that Carano would have enjoyed a better career if she had stayed longer in the fight game.
Tate, has had a long and contentious relationship with Rousey, perhaps quickest summed up in images.
But she also offered Rousey advice, with a caveat.
“I would say I’m probably the last person Ronda Rousey would want to take advice from,” Tate noted. “But if I were going to give my enemy and foe any advice, it would be to take time. People are going to say, ‘Well, didn’t she take enough time, she took a year off?’
“She did take enough time, but maybe not enough time in the right regards. She needs to think about what she wants. She needs to dig deep. She needs to look into her heart. And she needs to be honest with herself.
“She needs to not be pressured by the fans, by her mom, by her coaches, by the UFC. She needs to take the time to figure out what she really wants to do. Because this is a dangerous sport if your heart’s not in it.”
Tate herself recently determined her own heart wasn’t sufficiently in it, and has retired.
