Phil ‘CM Punk’ Brooks made a calculated decision to avoid using his considerable skills on the mic prior to his UFC debut. He opted instead to let his fighting skills do the talking, but in this regard, Brooks is a mime.
However, his handpicked opponent Mickey Gall ended up being a lively addition to the roster thus far. UFC president Dana White was ‘Lookin for a Fight’ and Gall won, and called out Punk. White accepted. Then Gall won, and called out Sage Northcutt. White and Northcutt accepted.
Gall spoke recently with TMZ Sports and detailed how he plans for the fight to go.
“I’m gonna do a lot to him. I don’t see this one being one round,” said Gall, as transcribed by Jed Meshew for MMA Fighting. “I see this being longer than that and I’m gonna break his bones. I’m gonna hurt him bad. I’m gonna bust him up, break his bones, tear things. I’m gonna put a beating on him…His boxing sucks. His ground game is pretty bad. So there’s holes on both sides. I know how I’m gonna fight him. It’s gonna be bad for him. He’s gonna feel like crap.”
“I don’t dislike him. I think he’s very corny. I think he’s like a silly boy. I don’t know, I think he’s kind of a dork but I don’t hate him at all. I love him. I can’t wait to fight him, can’t wait to get my hands on him.”
Where Punk had opted not to build hype for the UFC fight on the mic, Gall borrowed a page from pro wrestling and suggested the loser be forced to shave his head.
In 2007 at WrestleMania 23, Donald Trump and owner Vince McMahon engaged in such a contest. Trump won, and was assisted by now Bellator MMA heavyweight Bobby Lashley.
“Heck yeah, why not?” said Gall. “I put it out there. I didn’t hear anything from him but hey, if I lose I’ll cut my hair, but I ain’t losing. You can see a bald blond boy.”
“I’m gonna be a UFC champion. I don’t know a timetable, those things are hard to say but eventually, I’ll be UFC champion.”
