Metamoris 4 took place this Saturday, August 9th at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, CA. The event broadcast live via online PPV starting at 8:00 PM ET.

-Garry Lee Tonon defeated Kit Dale by Submission (Guillotine Choke)

-Saulo Ribeiro vs. Rodrigo Medeiros ended in a draw

-Keenan Cornelius vs. Vinny Magalhães

The bout starts with Cornelius pulling open guard and inverts immediately working for a leg lock. The two end in the 50/50 guard. Both fighters attack and defend as Cornelius attempts to take the back but ends with Magalhaes standing back up. Cornelius attempts to use De La Riva to take back, but Magalhaes sits. Back to open guard.

Cornelius inverts again and starts to work a calf slicer to a knee bar to heel hook attempt. The grapplers are back in 50/50 and Cornelius gets a good heel hook but Magalhaes gets a solid toe hold attempt, which gets a wince out of his opponent, but the two end back in the open guard.

Cornelius trying to work De La Riva guard but Magalhaes returns to open guard and attempts to come up for a sweep. Magalhales drops back for strong inside heel hook attempt which looked painful but Cornelius was able to roll out and escape and the two end back in 50/50 guard again. Cornelius attempts another heel hook but Magalhaes works out and locks up into the 50/50 guard again. A quick scramble and we are back in open guard.

The two play in open guard for a while with Magalhaes stopping a couple arm drag attempts. Cornelius is able to reap the leg and work towards a toe hold, but Magalhaes just smiles and works his way out. Back to open guard.

Cornelius starts to trying to play x-guard and is working towards the back but Magalhaes is using neck control to stop him from advancing. Cornelius is able to finish the x-guard sweep and is now on top of Magalhaes in open guard.

Cornelius is pushing the legs side to side and attempting to pass but Magalhaes starts to using his open guard to prevent, but Cornelilus gets the guard pass and lands on top of the north south position. Magalhaes scrambles to his feet and gets pushed out of bounds and the referee starts the bout standing.

Cornelius shoots in to attempt a takedown, Magalhaes turns for a toss and the two scramble to the ground with Cornelius on top. The two scramble hard, Cornelius passes the guard and mounts. Cornelius steps up to attempt a triangle but it’s defended and Cornelius is back in side mount.

Cornelius is able to work back to mount and Cornelius is working a high mount. Short time and Magalhaes look to just be trying to hold on. Cornelius is working a sort-of rubber guard from high mount and sets up a beautiful reverse triangle into a solid arm bar attempt. The two scramble to their feet and the match ends.

Secret Match

The first competitor for tonight’s secret match is revealed as Baret Yoshida. Neither the fans nor each competitor knows who they were grappling against until they both got on the mat. Yoshida is a long time competitor and had finished as runner up at ADCC. 

The other competitor announced and coming to the mat is Jeff Glover! Glover is announcing the event and is mat side, now taking his suit off to get into the match.

The match begins with Glover giving up his back to Yoshida who jumps on and Glover works immediately for a heel hook but the two stand up.

Again Glover gives his back and works feel another heel hook and and is now standing back in open guard. Glover rolls to the ground and transitions shortly to the back of Yoshida who ends up working for a leg lock of his own.

Glover sit guards and Yoshida works for the back but ends up on bottom of an open guard. The two end up on the ground again with Yoshida working for back control and Glover working a toe hold.

The fight get backs to the stand up and Yoshida pulls guard and a scramble ends up with Yoshida again attempting to take the back but Glover transitions to side mount and goes right into a triangle which he turns into an oma plata but Yoshida gets out and continues to work for back control.

The fights goes back to standing and Glover presents his back and does a handstand. Yoshida takes a front headlock position and the two scramble to Yoshida in an open guard. Yoshida again working from a front headlock but ends up inverted on Glover’s back. Rorion Gracie has joined Kenny Florian in the broadcast both.

Both grapplers continues to scramble with Glover working for a leg lock as Yoshida works for the back. Glover attempts a heel hook and a scramble gets them both standing up. Glover flops to his back and Yoshida works to pass, but they end up standing again where Glover hits a takedown. After a quick back and forth on the legs they stand up again, but Glover pulls guard and now butter fly guard. Glover now working from top position to pass, but Yoshida defends well. Glover persistent and mounts Yoshida who bucks and ends up on top of guard. Glover working a high rubber guard, but Yoshida breaks free and working to pass, but Glover is able to sweep and two stand again.

Glover works on top again trying to pass the open guard of Yoshida. Both scrambling for the back or a leg lock and Yoshida ends on top again trying to work a pass. Yoshida almost passes but Glover rolls and ends up on top now again working to pass Yoshida’s open guard. Glover sits back for a leg lock to no avail and now Yoshida is back on top. But a sweep and Glover is back on top. They are in a 50/05 guard and scramble back to standing.

Glover turns his back and works from the head stand position again. He’s now inverted with Yoshida grabbing his legs. The two are both attacking legs and again scramble to their feet. Glover shoots in, but pulls guard and Yoshida is on top again trying to pass, but Glover grabs one legs, attempts a sweep and they both end up both attacking legs again.

Glover is on top of Yoshida of an open guard but both stand up. Gloves just falls over to the bottom and Yoshida again working for a pass. Yoshida tries to roll and take the back, but Glover ends on top trying to pass guard. Glover drops back for a quick leg lock attempt and both stand up again. Glover turns his back and goes for a heel hook as Yoshida jumps in, but the end up standing again. Yoshida tries to pull guard and Glover goes back to attacking the legs. Glover gives up his back but switches to try to take the back of Yoshida, but ends in an open guard. Yoshida locks in a triangle as time expires, but Glover may have let it happen as he knew the time was over.

-Dean Lister vs. Josh Barnett

Josh Barnett is the first to the mat and working in the classic catch wrestler outfit, a speedo and wrestling shoes. Lister enters second in a more traditional board shorts and rash guard. The bout is announced to be for the Metamoris heavyweight title.

The match begins with both fighters hand fighting before Lister pulls butterfly guard. Barnett being careful on top trying to work his knee in for a pass as Lister is working an arm drag. Barnett stands to trying to pass but Lister keeps an open guard and tries another arm drag. Lister sits up and Barnett is working for a pass and gets to side control, but Lister has his arm trapped. Barnett using his shoulder to keep Lister’s face away and Lister keeps a stiff forearm in the waist of Barnett.

Lister attempts to use underhook to get back to his knees, but Barnett keeps control and seems content to work slowly. Lister is able to hip away and regain a half guard and then works to open guard. Barnett stands up and works for ankle control, but Lister is moving. Barnett works to pass forcing, Lister to turtle up and Barnett is pinning the ankle from back control.

Lister tries to turn to his back, but Barnett is able to cradle Lister up and keep him on his side. Barnett moves to north south as Lister lays flat. Lister attempts get on his side and work for a kimura, but Barnett flattens him. Barnett is now on top trying to lock in a kimura on Lister but as he pulls the arm comes loose and Barnett returns to side control.

Lister turns up and Barnett takes an under hook and gets back control again. Lister rolls and starts to attack the leg of Barnett but Barnett is able to power his leg out of his and ends up back in north south, then side mount. Barnett moves to north south and tried another kimura but Lister is able to defend and work out. Barnett switches to the other side of his body and lands in side mount. Lister is able to replace an open guard.

Barnett continue to working another pass as Lister defends and works the arm drag again. Barnett stands to pass and easily passes Lister guard to side mount again. Lister tries to pummel and come up but Barnett flattens him down. Barnett is looking to move to north south again and steps up again for a kimura attempt. Lister scrambles and Barnett looks a 3/4 nelson and two scramble to an open guard. Barnett passes guard again. Barnett sits out to scar fold and puts Lister in a head crank and Lister taps!

-André Galvão vs. Chael Sonnen

The match begins with Chael hitting his knees and blasting in for a low single. Galvao works in open guard before closing his guard. Galvao attempts to cut an angle and work towards the back or an arm bar, but Sonnen works back to neutral. The referee stops the bout as Sonnen has a cut above his eye brow. His corner evaluates the cut, which doesn’t look to be too deep.

The match continues back in the full closed guard of Galvao. Galvao is working his left arm over the back of Sonnen’s head to keep his posture down as Galvao works towards an oma plata but Sonnen postures up.

Galvao now working an open guard as Sonnen tries to works a pass. Sonnen stands up, but quickly returns to the butter fly guard of Galvao. Galvao on his right side looking for a possible arm drag but Sonnen stands up before returning to the open guard.

Galvao is trying to working his butter fly guard but Sonnen is doing a good job avoiding engaging with Galvao. Galvao is able to secure a full guard again but Sonnen backs out and comes back into open guard. Galvao has double under hooks and is working to elevate Sonnen. Galvao works his way into a half guard as Sonnen works his whizzer. 

Galvao is working to get up, but Sonnen is using the whizzer to keep him on the mat. Galvao is working hard to come around the back but Sonnen is doing a good job defending and slowing Galvao down. The two stand and Galvao is able to scramble up and has taken the back of Sonnen.

Galvao has both hooks set now and is working for a choke. Galvao transitions to a body triangle and has Sonnen in a tough position. Galvao locks in a choke position, but it looks to be over Sonnen’s chin. Galvao keeps turning Sonnen’s chin side to side to look for the choke.

Galvao continues to work for a check and Sonnen goes belly down and Galvao is able to secure the rear naked choke for the finish.
