Conor McGregor won the undisputed featherweight title by knocking out Jose Aldo in 13 seconds at UFC 194 on December 12, 2015. Instead of the defending the 145 belt, through a series of odd circumstances he instead ended up fighting Nate Diaz, twice, and 171. When for a third time he declined to defend the belt, and instead fought Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight belt, the UFC allowed him a moment of being the first fighter to hold belts in two divisions at the same time, and then lifted it. It had been 336 days without a title defense.

McGregor was defiant and posted various images on his social network of the two belts. But then he did it again. Instead of defending his new belt, he boxed Floyd Mayweather.

McGregor won the lightweight title on November 12, 2016. The UFC is going to strip him of that belt on Saturday. That will be 511 days without a title defense. As Bruce Buffer explains, it’s time.

McGregor was again defiant. This time pointedly so, in perfectly punctuated slang.

“You’s’ll strip me of nothing you’s do nothing c***s,” he explained.

The accuracy of the statement, of course, depends on whether you think the UFC title is nothing or not.

And none of this is a criticism of Conor McGregor. He has won eight performance bonuses in a row, a record. He made over $100 million boxing Floyd Mayweather. Conor McGregor is bigger than the sport; it’s math, at least until the UFC pays him $100 million in cash or equity.

But he won’t hold a belt after Saturday.

But what if Nurmagomedov vs. Holloway ends in a tie or No Contest?!?
