UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor recently took part in a media event ahead of his rematch with lightweight Nate Diaz, at welterweight. Mystic Mac predicted two belts in his future, or three.

After the rematch with Diaz at UFC 202 on August 20, 2016 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, there is some question where McGregor will fight next. UFC president Dana White envisions a title defense at 145. His coach John Kavanagh hopes for a fight at 155. McGregor did not appear overly excited about a title defense next.

“They’re praying I don’t come back,” said McGregor of the other featherweights, as transcribed byAnton Tabuena for BE. “I’ve beaten everybody in the division. If Frankie had won, after all the s*** he was talking, his team was talking, it would’ve been set in stone, and I would’ve shut that man up. But he got slapped around on that fight, couldn’t do nothing against a guy I KO’d in one shot.”

“I just have to see what happens after this fight. I’m the featherweight world champion. The guy I KO’d is holding the interim world championship. What does that tell you? That I’m leaps and bounds ahead of that featherweight division.”

“I’m the world champion, of course I’m going to defend that title sometime in the future, but we’ll see what happens after this fight.”

One thing McGregor remains certain of is joining BJ Penn and Randy Couture as being the only fighters in UFC history to hold belts in two divisions.

“You’re damn right,” he said. “If Dos Anjos hadn’t pussied out of our last fight, the shots I hit Nate with in the first 8 or 9 minutes would’ve KO’d Dos Anjos. I would be sitting here with a belt here, and a belt there.”

“But some things happen for a reason, and it forced me to reevaluate before things got too sloppy. I’m happy it happened, but most certainly I envision two, possibly three, belts on my shoulder.”

The crazy thing is, McGregor is not being crazy. Were he to land a fight with UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez, oddsmakers might well make him the favorite. And the opening several minutes of a fight with welterweight champion Tyron Woodley would be so explosive that predicting an outcome would be an exercise in hope rather than certainty.
