Conor McGregor holds the UFC lightweight belt actually and the featherweight belt literally. The only fight he wants is a boxing match with Floyd Mayweather Jr. And reports circulated that he would be appearing on the spectacularly popular television series Game of Thrones.
“It’s been agreed that McGregor will appear in one of the remaining two seasons of Game Of Thrones,” said an unnamed source to The Sunday Life. “He was headhunted as it were by HBO, as one of the Game Of Thrones directors is a huge UFC fan.”
Filming for the latest season is ongoing in Belfast, Ireland, and also in Iceland so the Dubliner who regularly trains at Iceland’s Mjolnir gym, would not have to travel for the opportunity. Further, Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are big UFC fans, and appeared on the UFC Unfiltered Podcast in July, with Matt Serra and Jim Norton.
“We talk more about MMA than we do Game of Thrones,” they said. “Every day we get home from shooting we’ll just sit around drink beer and watch Fight Pass. We loved Diaz’s line, ‘I’m not surprised motherf***ers.’ We were thinking of rewriting that line in the show.
So the reports seemed more than plausible, and were reported worldwide.
However, during the recent PPV Q&A, McGregor said it just ain’t so.
I’ve never even heard about it! said McGregor as transcribed by Entertainment Weekly. I heard about it once after [a fight] … backstage in the dressing room. [UFC brass, including Dana White, were] in front of me and they were saying ‘these [vistors] want you to be in Game of Thrones.’ I’m banged up, my shin’s in a heap, I’ve been kicking his knee’s straight for 25 minutes, my leg’s in bits, and he’s trying to offer me a Game of Thrones role. And I’m saying, ‘Listen, come at me with s*** I want to hear, I’m not trying to be in show business, I’m trying to be in the fight business. Come at me with a real number to fight again. So that was the only time I ever heard the [words] Games of Thrones. And it went everywhere like months later! So I don’t know where that came from. But I’ve never been in contact with nobody from Game of Thrones and now I’m starring in Game of foo*ing Thrones!
So GOT no, FMJ who knows.
