McGregor: I’d knock out Mayweather, age waits for no man

Conor McGregor won the featherweight title at UFC 194, on December 12, 2015, and the lightweight title at UFC 205 on November 12, 2016. That made him the first person to ever hold two UFC belts at the same time.
The problem is, he doesn’t seem interested in defending either of them. McGregor and partner Dee Devlin are expecting their first child in May, and he reasonably wants to take a break until then.
But he expressed no interest in defending the featherweight title, and it was recently removed. McGregor expressed very little interest in defending the lightweight belt, calling #1 contender Khabib Nurmagomedov a pull-out merchant.
McGregor expressed a little interest in fighting welterweight champion Tyron Woodley. In truth, the only contest he seems to want is a boxing match with Floyd Mayweather. McGregor recently got licensed to box professionally in California. And during a recent Q&A at The Devenish bar in Belfast, Ireland, McGregor said he would win.
With the work ethic that I have, focused solely on the sport of boxing, there’s no telling what I could do,” said McGregor, as transcribed by Evan Bell for BJPenn.com. “I would not go in there just to show up, I’d go in there to knock him out, and that’s it. He can be hit. He’s been hit before.
“Age waits for no man also, so I know they know that. I know the size is on my side, I know the reach is on my side, I know the youth is on my side. So there’s a lot to lose for them, so that’s why they’re scrambling.
“McGregor got his boxing license ‘Oh, Floyd’s in the Bahamas, he don’t give a f***.’ They’re scrambling right now, but that’s okay. I’ll leave them scrambling. I have some other boxing opportunities, some potential opponents in mind, some previous Floyd opponents, I can bring in anyone in the game. So we’ll see what happens.
This is the first time McGregor has indicated he is interested in boxing someone other than Mayweather. Having become the first person to hold two UFC belts at once, perhaps Notorious thinks the only place to top the last fight is in the boxing ring.
Mayweather is the one who originally floated the idea but lately has been playing hard to get.
