McGregor coach: We have a plan, no doubt he knocks FMJ out
Conor McGregor’s coach: “I know my phone is about to explode, I’m sure. But look, Conor does these things.”

Conor McGregor’s boxing coach Owen Roddy has trained Notorious since the day he stepped into SBGi 13 years ago. Roddy appeared recently on Ariel Helwani’s The MMA Hour, and discussed how they plan to beat Floyd Mayweather. It’s a tall order. For one, no one has ever beaten Mayweather in boxing. For another, a 12 round fight lasts 47 minutes and takes many years to prepare for. By contrast, McGregor has gone the MMA title distance of 29 minutes just once. He’s only gone the non-title 17 minutes once, too. And he is known to explode and then visibly gas.
Given that the entire boxing world has tried to defeat Mayweather for decades without success, it makes little sense to bring in a Freddie Roach. Instead, McGregor will have a familiar corner, presumably with a for boxing unorthodox plan.
At the moment, it’s going to be me, John, possibly Artem and I think there’s four, said Roddy, as transcribed by MMA Fighting. Obviously he’ll have to get his own cut man and stuff like that. He hasn’t sorted that just yet. But it’ll definitely be myself, John and Artem at the moment.
We’re not bringing anybody in as of yet, but who knows down the line. We’re gonna head over the states in the next couple of weeks. But at the moment, we’re in Dublin, we’re all working together. We came up with a game plan that we think can shock the world and we’re gonna stick to that for the time being.
We believe that there is shots that can land. I believe that we have a game plan and I think Conor can go in and execute. if he does, I think we can cause the upset.
Roddy did concede it would not be easy.
It’s a tall task, he said, as transcribed by Kristen King for FanSided. But if anybody could do it, Conor can. He shocks the world every time. Every time he fights he’s doubted, people are like, ‘You can’t do this, you can’t do that.’
We know what Conor is capable of. Conor does it every time.
I think he’s gonna put him away. I think he’s gonna KO him. I think it’ll take a couple of rounds. And I know my phone is about to explode, I’m sure. But look, Conor does these things. He does these exceptional things all the time. If he says he’s gonna go in and knock him out, I think he’s gonna go in and knock him out.
I have no doubt in my mind he’s gonna do it. I think it’s gonna be one of the most insane nights ever.
Roddy also said that another coach could be brought in when they start their camp in the US, which will be in either Los Angeles or Las Vegas. And, obviously, boxing sparring partners will be brought in.
In the meantime, the gym in Ireland got a new mural.
