Bellator MMA light heavyweight champion Liam McGeary appeared recently on MMAjunkie Radio and discussed his fight Friday night with Phil Davis at Bellator 163.
The pair engaged in some lively trash talk, but McGeary said it wasn’t really his style.
I don’t really enjoy the trash talking part, said McGeary as transcribed by the awesome but double auto-playing MMAjunkie. It’s definitely good for the fans. It gets the fans excited and motivated for the fight if there’s a little bit of bad blood between the fighters. It gives them something to look forward to. But for me, man, I’m always going to be in an exciting fight. I don’t like doing these boring fights, I have never been in a boring fight. I just know my fighting style is always going to be exciting.
There has long been a sense that every good fighter is in the UFC. However, when Strikeforce was acquired by the UFC, it turned out that Daniel Cormier, Fabricio Werdum, Luke Rockhold, and Robbie Lawler, among others, were more than competitive with anyone in the world’s dominant league.
Now former UFC contender Phil Davis has gone the other way, and it will provide a stern test for McGeary, and for the caliber of champions in the world’s #2 league. The 11-0 McGeary says he is more than up for it.
It’s definitely going to help my career, sid McGeary. But there’s always going to be the naysayers, you know? They’re the ones that push you to do well in the sport. I definitely think me beating Phil will make people realize I am where I am for a reason and I do belong there and I’m around to stay.
