McCall: Dillashaw, Alpha Male lack system to beat Nova Uniao

Team Alpha Male’s T.J. Dillashaw fights Nova Uniao’s Renan Barao on Saturday night in the main event of UFC 173, live on PPV. Four times fighters from the same two camps have fought in title bouts.

In an interview with Rick J Lee, Ian “Uncle Creepy” McCall, breaks down Saturday’s fight, and says Team Alpha Male does not have what it takes to beat Nova Uniao.

“Barao versus Dillashaw is interesting,” said McCall. Because Dillashaw has made some serious improvements with Duane (“Bang” Ludwig). I don’t know all of the drama with Duane. It seems like the only drama is with Duane and Urijah because everybody else is getting along… I don’t know it’s not my business.

“But, T.J. is going to try and stand with Barao… and he’s going to get knocked out. Brazilians… Alpha Male does not have the system to beat those types of Brazilians. They don’t. Like look at the track record. I hate to say it, but, it’s not going to work dude.

“And, not to take anything away from T.J., he’s great, he’s really good. But I think as far as MMA goes, he is the least effective wrestler out of the bunch, in MMA. I don’t know how his grappling is, you never see it because all he wants to do is stand and trade. But I think he has become the best kickboxer out of Alpha Male.

“So, you know, of course, back to anyone can knock out anyone on any given day, but I think Barao is just a better striker. It’s going to come down to a kickboxing fight, match, whatever you want to call it – I don’t think it will go well for T.J.”
