Conor McGregor is going to box Floyd Mayweather for 150,000,050 reasons. Mayweather is the biggest pay per view television draw in boxing history; McGregor is the biggest draw in MMA history. Together, Mayweather will make $100,000,000 and McGregor at least half that. The other reason is that Mayweather wants to break Rocky Marciano’s cursed 49-0 record. He needs to fight someone that he can outbox even with a 61-year-old curse; that would be McGregor.
So the only question is when. There were rumors it would be in September, but then Canelo Alvarez vs. Triple G locked down September 16. MayGregor would ideally be before it, and not too close.
According to the Nevada Athletic Commission’s event calendar, Mayweather Promotions has July 29 and August 26 booked for events at The MGM Grand in Las Vegas, the sole venue for Mayweather fights for a decade. And the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that a well-placed source said that MayGregor will take place before Canelo vs. GGG.
McGregor himself posted on his social network that something big is coming.
UFC president Dana White is has completed negotiations with McGregor’s said, and is believed to be in negotiations for with Mayweather’s management team. If all goes well, and given that the UFC has so little to lose it should, expect MayGregor in one of those two weekend slots.
