I don’t think I flipped out there. Bad sportsmanship possibly but wouldn’t it be considered bad sportsmanship to enter a grappling tourney and not grapple??? I went there to compete and that’s what I tried to do. I pulled guard on a 330lb man for christ sake. Whatever. I’ll probably do the same again! Oh and the decision was overturned and I got the victory and I grappled him in the men’s expert where he was forced by a new ref to actually compete and I won 14-0.

how’d you get the win? didn’t seem like you did much either in that clip. was there more action prior to that?

From: Matt Mitrione

They told me that several judges complained about him bailing out and not engaging so they checked film and reversed it I guess. I’m not up on the rules so I could be completely off track. I tried pretty hard to grapple he just wouldn’t cooperate.

I agree guy should of got hit for stalling but fuck take him down mittrione get him to the ground

I’m recovering from an orbital blowout fracture surgery I got in the Schaub fight so can’t take any chances running my face into anything. Was risky enough getting into the tourney

he kept flopping back to play a guard… its not like mitrione took any/many chances there either. i think it was bad sportsmanship also. p.s. when youre down 2-0 dont drop to play guard, i guess.

I don’t know how to jump guard. First time I’ve ever tried it. I entered to compete so win or lose as long as I got to grapple and feel the pressure of people watching than I was fine. The 18yr old had a tight top game and passed my guard before I even hit the ground. That was in the men’s expert. This video was masters expert final

congrats on your victory meathead, any fights lined up?

From: Matt Mitrione

Thanks ! Nothing lined up yet. I think they’re allowing me sometime to heal from the surgery and work on some things. I was too tentative in regards to not attacking due to worrying about takedowns so I’m working in a lot of wrestling fundamentals with Purdue wrestling team and coaches. I made a few dumb mistakes in my Schaub fight and I’ve got plenty to keep me busy as far as development goes.
